Trip Overview

2 weeks is not enough to see all of France, but we based our trip mostly on getting to some key bucket list places. We flew into France, and out of Nice. With the exception of our rental car to get to the Verdon Gorge, all other travel was done via train and public transport.
Nuits St Georges Wineries

Nuits St Georges is a quaint little town surrounded by vineyards. The town is full of caveaux for you to visit, sample, and buy wine of all varietals the area has to offer. It is also lovely to cycle and/or walk through the vineyards bordering the town- no pass or tour required. Nuit St Georges is accessible via TGV and local train. When coming from Paris, change in Dijon for the local train.
Verdon Gorge

The Verdon Gorge is a French holiday destination. The Dam installation on the Verdon River created Lac de Sainte-Croix, and a perfect location for water recreation. Venturing upriver via kayak or power boat will take you into the Gorge- which is the deepest canyon in Western Europe, and a popular spot for rock climbers. When we were visiting mid September, most restaurants and shops had closed down for the season, but we enjoyed having the place to ourselves!
Villefranche Sur-Mer

A common port for cruise ships to dock in Nice, nearby Villefranche Sur Mer is quaint and colorful on the non-cruise days. We rented a power boat to explore the harbour, coastline, and mansions from the water.
